Tinnitus is an internal sound that one hears in their ears or head in the absence of any external stimuli or sound source. It is only audible by you and it can be present continuously or come and go and can interfere in one’s daily activities.

It does occur in different forms of sounds from ringing, buzzing, whooshing, humming, pulsating, etc and can occur in one or both ears. While the cause of tinnitus is unknown, there are many factors that can contribute to tinnitus including and not limited to:

  • Noise exposure especially over a prolonged period of time

  • Eardrum blockage ex. Wax build up

  • Certain medications

  • Head injury

  • Stress

  • Head/neck injury

There are tools and assistive devices that one can use to assist in coping with tinnitus and to reduce the impact of tinnitus on your daily life.
